Draft — last updated 30 September 2026. Not yet reviewed by a legal professional; treat as a placeholder until finalized.
When you create a Stept account, we collect your email address and, if you sign in with Google or Apple, the basic profile information those services provide (name, email). If you add a profile photo, we store that image.
Stept reads step count, distance, and flights climbed from Apple Health or Health Connect, with your explicit permission granted through your device's own settings. We never see or request any other health data.
We do not sell your data. Friends you connect with can see your today's step count, streak, and average for the period they're viewing — nothing more. We use the following processors to operate Stept, each bound to use your data only to provide their service to us:
Step, distance, and flights-climbed data read from Apple Health or Health Connect is used only to power the features described above. We do not use it for advertising, and we do not share it with any third party beyond the processors listed above who help us run the app itself.
Data is stored with our infrastructure providers using industry-standard encryption in transit. Access to production systems is limited to those who need it to operate Stept.
You can reset your step history or permanently delete your account at any time from Settings, with no recovery window once confirmed. You can also revoke Stept's access to Health data at any time through your device's own privacy settings.
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, associated step data, reminders, and friend connections are permanently removed.
Stept is not directed at children under 13 (or the relevant minimum age in your region), and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
If this policy changes materially, we'll notify active users by email or in-app notice before the change takes effect.
Questions about this policy or a request regarding your data can be sent to privacy@thesteptapp.com.
